Getting started
What is CALiNGA?
CALiNGA is a technology-based referral marketplace. It lets people seeking care, called CareSeekers, discover and connect with independent caregivers and qualified healthcare professionals, called CALiNGApros. There are two apps: CALiNGA Seeker for people arranging care, and CALiNGA Pro for the professionals providing it.
Which app do I download?
Download CALiNGA Seeker if you are arranging care for yourself or someone else. Download CALiNGA Pro if you are a caregiver or qualified professional looking to connect with CareSeekers. Both are available on the App Store and Google Play.
Is CALiNGA available where I live?
CALiNGA is available in selected cities, states and markets, and that footprint changes over time. Availability in a location does not mean every category of care or professional service is legally permitted there, and we may apply state-specific policies or requirements as we expand.
How old do I have to be?
Users must generally be at least 18 and legally able to enter a binding agreement. We may ask for reasonable identity, contact, professional or payment verification when you sign up.
For CareSeekers
How do I request care?
Create a request in the app based on the category of care, date, time, location, rate and qualifications you need. Submitting a request does not guarantee acceptance or availability. A service becomes confirmed only through the app's confirmation process.
What is the CALiNGA Digital Handshake?
When a CareSeeker and a CALiNGApro mutually confirm a service in the app, CALiNGA records that confirmation as the CALiNGA Digital Handshake. It documents the parties, service category, date, scheduled start and end time, location, displayed rate, charges and other booking information. CALiNGA records the connection but does not guarantee either party's performance.
Can I arrange care for a parent or another family member?
Yes, provided you have appropriate authorization or legal authority. That might be as an authorized family member, parent, guardian, agent, attorney-in-fact or other authorized representative. You are responsible for obtaining any required consent before you share another person's personal, health-related, location or contact information with us.
Who chooses the CALiNGApro?
You do. You are responsible for reviewing the available information about a CALiNGApro and deciding whether that provider and the requested service are appropriate for your situation. CALiNGA does not guarantee suitability.
How does pricing work?
Pricing can vary with service category, qualifications, location, supply and demand, availability, urgency, time, date, holidays and other marketplace conditions. Applicable pricing is displayed before you confirm, as required.
What are hourly care reports?
CALiNGApros can create hourly care reports covering service notes, observations and activity updates during a confirmed service, and those reports may be made available to you. They are care documentation only and are not a medical diagnosis or medical advice from CALiNGA.
What if I need to cancel?
You can cancel through the app. Cancellations made within two hours of a scheduled service may result in a disclosed cancellation charge where permitted by law. Refunds and adjustments depend on the circumstances of the transaction, our policies, payment processor requirements and applicable law.
Can I tip?
Where tipping is available in the app, tips are voluntary and go to the CALiNGApro, handled in line with applicable law and payment-processing requirements.
For CALiNGApros
Am I an employee of CALiNGA?
No. CALiNGApros use the platform as independent service providers. Nothing in the Terms, on its own, is intended to create an employer-employee, partnership, franchise, joint venture or agency relationship, and legal classification is determined by applicable law and actual circumstances. You remain responsible for your own licensing, certification, professional, insurance, business and tax obligations.
What can I offer on the platform?
Only services you are legally permitted and qualified to perform, within the lawful scope of practice that applies where the service occurs. You must accurately represent your identity, qualifications, experience, licenses, certifications, training and credentials, and keep required credentials current.
How do clock-in and clock-out work?
The app records when you begin and end a confirmed service. Those records may be used for service documentation, payment calculation, marketplace operations, safety, dispute review and fraud prevention. Time records must never be falsified or manipulated.
Why does the app use my location?
Where enabled, authorized and permitted by law, location and geofencing support service-location verification, clock-in and clock-out, matching, safety and fraud prevention. Spoofing or manipulating location is prohibited. The Privacy Policy describes location practices in full.
How do I get paid?
Payments are processed through Stripe Connect or another authorized payment processor. To receive payouts you must complete the processor's onboarding and verification. Processors can independently impose holds, reserves, restrictions, additional verification or payout delays, and CALiNGA cannot guarantee processor approval or payout timing where a third party controls it.
Can I upload my existing Live Scan documentation?
Where permitted, yes. You can upload documentation of a previously completed California Live Scan or other legally acceptable screening. CALiNGA does not receive or store the underlying fingerprint biometric data just because proof of a completed screening is uploaded, and requirements differ by state.
Does CALiNGA provide me with insurance?
No. Unless expressly stated otherwise in writing, CALiNGA does not provide workers' compensation, automobile, professional liability or general liability insurance. Determining and maintaining appropriate coverage is your responsibility.
Who handles my taxes?
You do. Users are responsible for taxes applicable to their own activities, except where CALiNGA or another party is legally required to collect, report, withhold or remit amounts. CALiNGA does not provide individual tax advice.
Verification, safety and conduct
Are CALiNGApros background checked?
CALiNGA may facilitate identity verification, credential verification or third-party background screening for marketplace trust and safety, subject to applicable federal and state requirements. Note that a completed screening does not guarantee character, future conduct, competence or suitability, so your own judgement still matters.
Is CALiNGA an emergency service?
No. CALiNGA is not an emergency-response service. In an emergency, contact 911 or your local emergency service immediately. Do not rely on CALiNGA messages, notifications, care reports or customer support for emergency assistance.
Does CALiNGA give medical advice?
No. CALiNGA does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, prescriptions, treatment or independent nursing judgment. Licensed professionals on the platform remain responsible for exercising their own professional judgment, and medication-related activities may only be performed where legally permitted and within a CALiNGApro's lawful qualifications and scope of practice.
What conduct is prohibited?
Violence, abuse, exploitation, threats, harassment, discrimination, theft, fraud, sexual misconduct, retaliation and coercion are all prohibited, as is falsifying credentials, care reports, time records or locations. Older adults, people with disabilities, dependent adults, minors and other vulnerable individuals must be treated with dignity and respect, and all users must follow applicable laws on abuse, neglect, exploitation and mandatory reporting.
Can I be removed from the platform?
Yes. CALiNGA may investigate, restrict, suspend or deactivate an account where reasonably necessary because of Terms violations, fraud, safety concerns, credential issues, payment abuse, unlawful activity, security threats, repeated misconduct or legal requirements.
Can I arrange a booking off the platform to avoid fees?
No. Using CALiNGA primarily to find another user and then deliberately circumventing platform payment systems, fees, safety mechanisms or marketplace policies is not permitted, to the extent the law allows us to say so.
Privacy and your account
What information does CALiNGA collect?
Account and profile details, identity and credential information, care and service details, booking and transaction records, care reports, messages, location where enabled, payment status from our processor, and device and usage data. The Privacy Policy sets it out in full.
How is health-related information handled?
Care needs, mobility, medication-related instructions, service observations and similar details are treated as sensitive, used for the purposes described in the Privacy Policy, and not used for unrelated advertising. Whether HIPAA applies to a particular item depends on the entities, information and circumstances involved, and users with their own professional confidentiality obligations remain responsible for meeting them.
What does a CALiNGApro see about me?
Information shared between users is limited to what is reasonably necessary to facilitate the service, which can include name, profile photo, rating, requested service, scheduled date and time, service location, care instructions and booking information. Section 25 of the Privacy Policy covers this.
Can I turn location off?
Yes, through your device settings. Be aware that features which depend on it, including location-based matching and geofenced clock-in and clock-out, may not work correctly.
How do I delete my account and my data?
Request deletion through the app or by contacting us. Deletion does not necessarily remove every record immediately: we may retain some information for legal compliance, tax and financial reporting, fraud prevention, safety, disputes, chargebacks, enforcement or legal claims. See Account Deletion for the detail.
What privacy rights do I have?
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know or access your information, obtain copies, correct inaccuracies, delete certain information, obtain portability, opt out of certain sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive information and appeal decisions. California residents have specific rights under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA. Submit a request to privacy@calingacare.com.
Is CALiNGA responsible for the care provided?
CALiNGA provides technology that facilitates connections between users and does not itself perform the underlying caregiving or healthcare services. The CALiNGApro is responsible for the services they deliver. Section 1 and Section 49 of the Terms set out our role and its limits.
